Hello,

My name is Lauryn Blystone. I am your WASC Region 3 SHS secretary. I live in Marinette and am a part of the high school’s Student Senate. I think the structure of our Student Senate is a little unique. At MHS we have a total of 88 senate members with 20 representatives per class. In addition to the representatives, there are 8 officer positions:

Co-presidents (Responsibilities are shared equally)
Secretary (Creates the agendas and keeps the minutes)
Treasurer (Takes care of deposits and vouchers/receipts)
Historian (Creates our scrapbook for the State Conference)
Board of Education Representative (Serves as a liaison between our school board and the student body)
Board of Education Representative Shadow (Attends the Board of Education meetings if the Representative is not able to attend. Helps to create the monthly report to the Board of Education)
Coordinator (Communicates and sends reminders about meetings and events)

With all of these positions, our Senate is able to do several spirit weeks and numerous community service events each year. Each member is asked to serve on 7 or 8 committees per year. Juniors and seniors typically are chairpersons for the committees. One sophomores is asked to shadow the junior and senior chairperson for each committee to learn the responsibilities for future years. There is also one officer for each committee to communicate between the chairpersons and advisors.
