Welcome to the 2018/19 School Year
Senior High School State President – Callie Korth
Hello everyone! I am Callie Korth, the SHS State President and Region V President for the 2018-19 school year! I am overjoyed at the opportunity to be on the Executive Board this year, and be able to work with so many inspiring leaders. I have been on the governing board representing Region V for a few years now, learning more about what the WASC is all about and learning my own leadership style! Currently, I attend McFarland High School in McFarland, WI – located just outside of Madison. I am grateful to be our student council president for the junior class!
Outside of the WASC, I love to be involved in many school clubs – from forensics to an art group! We also have a Student Advisory Board at my school that I take part in. For personal interests, my absolute favorite activity is to attend concerts and photograph the bands who are playing.
At McFarland High School, our council works extensively to come up with new and fun ways to get not only our student body involved, but our whole community! One of the highlights of our school year has always been our bagel sales. Each year during finals week, a group of officers provide bagels to sell so that our students do not go hungry during their tests! Something our council took part in last year as well was our “glow dance”. This is a fun, informal dance where students can get glowed-up – including everything from highlighters that shine under black light, to glowsticks for each student! Our council not only hosted the SHS Fall Summit for both the 2017 and 2018 school year, we also took part in the Spirit of Excellence last year, which became the winning portfolio for Region V!
WASC has done so much for me throughout my middle and high school years, and I am so thankful to have opportunities for me to help other leaders and further extend my ever growing passion for leadership! I am delighted to be your SHS President, and I welcome you to an amazing 2018-19 school year with WASC!
Junior High School State President – Connor Hartje
Hello, my name is Connor Hartje and I am the 2018-2019 WASC JAM (Junior and Middle School) State President. I am excited and honored to represent the State of Wisconsin! This will be my second year attending WASC events and first year being on the Governing Board. I am excited to meet new people and represent the WASC.
This fall I will be entering eighth grade at Gordon R. Olson Middle School in Mauston, WI located in South Central Wisconsin. Each year Gordon R. Olson Middle School Student Council elects the Executive Board members in October. Last year I was elected the Student Council Public Relations Director/Director of School Announcements. I am currently the Acting Student Council President and running for President in October. In addition to this, I was elected to be the Region VI JAM President at the State Conference in April of 2018. In July of 2018 I had the opportunity to attend WASC Leadership Camp where I had some great experiences and learned many new leadership skills.
Gordon R. Olson Middle School has a very active Student Council. We are responsible for the daily announcements, stocking and running the concessions, sponsoring dances, spirit weeks, hat days, candy canes for friends, send a crush “soda” to your crush days, creating a portfolio for the WASC Spirit of Excellence Award, and other projects and ideas that we organize. My Student Council has five committees: Announcements Committee, Concessions Committee, Special Events Committee, School Dance Committee, and WASC Spirit of Excellence Award Committee. Last year I was the Head of the Announcements Committee and WASC Spirit of Excellence Award Committee. Student Council along with WASC has really given me a great opportunity to get involved at my school and gain wonderful tools that I believe can really help me later in my life.
This year I am looking forward to help host the upcoming WASC events including Leadership Institute, Fall Region Summit, and State Conference. For more information on these amazing events or more information about WASC, visit the WASC website (www.wasc.org.) You can also check us out on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter (@wascleader.) WASC has lightened my life and helped me understand how to be a better leader. I am so very thankful to be the JAM State President and I hope to be the best that I can be this year. If you have any questions please feel free to talk to me.
