Dylan’s Welcome

Clay MichekNews Notes

WASC!  How do you feel?!!   My name is Dylan Kopf and I go to Evansville J.C. McKenna Middle School.  In the fall, I am going to be an 8th grader.  How do I feel?  I am very excited and honored to be the WASC State Jam President and the President of Region V for the school year of 2016-17. I am also excited to be able to meet and work with student leaders all over the state this year.

I would like to welcome you to the new school year and also to our new WASC website. A lot of hours have been put into creating this new website (Thanks, Clay!) and the WASC is very excited to have this great site to give you all the information you may need about our organization.

This fall, we will be putting videos of our most popular icebreakers on the WASC YouTube account at WASCLeader.  We want to do this so when you go to any WASC event, you will know the icebreakers!   The regional officers are going to be making these videos during our September Governing Board retreat.

Another thing I am excited about for this upcoming school year is going to all of the WASC events.  Every year I get so many new ideas for my school’s council and even for my Region at WASC events.  For example, my Student Council saw a presentation on the Spirit of Excellence award. And we thought we should do that, it looks fun! We worked very hard on the Spirit of Excellence and we actually won the award for 2015-16. We have learned about teacher appreciation ideas and spirit day ideas too, which we have used in our school.

I was lucky to travel to Portland, Oregon this summer to the National Association of Student Councils National Conference.  I hope to help bring the same incredible energy and fun that I saw there during the general sessions to our conferences here in Wisconsin.  We also saw Kyle Scheele, who will be our keynote speaker at this year’s State Conference…he is amazing and has a great message for student leaders.

I am also very thankful for being trusted in this big role in the WASC as the JAM State President. So you will be seeing me a lot at all of the events.   I am very excited to see all of the amazing things that will happen this year.  I look forward to meeting you and hearing about the awesome ideas that you have. Thank you!
