WARREN E. SHULL ADVISOR OF THE YEAR
Each year, the National Association of Student Councils recognizes the top high school and middle school advisors throughout the country through the Warren E. Shull Advisor of the Year program. Nominations for this prestigious award come from State Associations. Each of the eight NASC regions select one regional finalist for high school and one for middle school. An overall winner is then selected among these finalists.
Wisconsin is in Region 4 and its nominees are recognized during WASC’s annual State Conference programs.
Selection Procedure
The NASC National Advisory Council has the monumental challenge of judging applications and selecting the region finalists and national Warren E. Shull winners. Pairs of council members select region finalists and the entire council participates in selection of the national winners. Selections are made during the council’s annual meeting held in January. Region finalists are notified of their selections in early February.
Awards
Advisors named as state nominees receive a certificate, letter of congratulations, and a press release, as well as recognition on the NASC website and in Leadership for Student Activities magazine. Region finalists and the two national winners will be presented with specially designed plaques provided by Herff Jones, Inc. Additionally, each national winner receives a $500 cash award.
Wisconsin’s Winners
Three Warren E. Shull Advisor of the Year winners have come from WASC: Roger Chambers (1994), Patty Hupfer Riedel (2002) and Jim Kramer (2014).
