A WASC Legend Remembered
It was with a heavy heart that we said goodbye to Terry Ragus, a longtime friend and champion of the WASC. Terry passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2019. Terry was a guidance counselor and student council advisor for the Sun Prairie School District for over 30 years. During his time at Sun Prairie, he inspired thousands of students to reach their potential and lead through their actions. He and his students shared their time and talents statewide by hosting Fall Leadership Summits and Regional Business Meetings. Terry also was elected to serve at the State level as a Region 5 JAM Advisor and did so for over 20 years. He was also chosen to be the WASC’s first ever – Historian. Each year Terry also encouraged his students to attend summer leadership camp with sometimes close to 100 students each year attending.
Not only did Terry inspire students, but also his colleagues. Had it not been for Terry and his persistent encouragement, his fellow advisors would not have become the advocates for students they had the potential to be. He was a fierce confidant and always found time to share his expertise and genuine care for people.
After retiring from Sun Prairie, Terry’s involvement in the WASC and support of student leadership certainly didn’t end. He served on the Long Range Planning Committee in its effort to provide resources and guidance for the WASC. He served on the Donald C. Larsen Foundation Board of Directors and through that position and his own financial contributions, provided scholarships for deserving students to attend WASC summer camps. Terry also served as the Parliamentarian for the State Delegate Assembly and a variety of volunteer assignments at various programs.
Terry’s legacy will continue to live on in the hearts and lives of those he touched over the years. His generosity and compassion for others will continue to set the bar for years to come. He will always be remembered for his colorful and vibrant spirit. Terry Ragus – our champion, our mentor, our friend.
If you wish to honor Terry’s memory, the family has set up a memorial in Terry’s name through the WASC. To contribute in his honor, please contact email@example.com to learn how.
