On Day 1 (Sunday), schools and students are encouraged to participate in our 11 competitions ranging from prepared events to on demand events to artifact events. Registration is required to participate. Competitions vary based on submission format and when judging takes place. For the first time, 5 of the competitions include short presentations, called Competition Lightning Talks, to encourage networking, sharing, and collaboration. |
Pre-Conference Competitions Includes Artifacts & On Demand Competitions Artifact Drop off: 10:30am - 11:45am
On Demand Competitions: 11:00am - 11:50am
| **NEW** Competition Lightning Talks! What are they? Round Robin style presentations with time at the end for those listening to interact and ask questions. How do they work? Each presenter will set up at one of tables in the banquet hall. Each round other students (and judges) will rotate each round to learn from a different presenter. When will they take place? Day 1 (Sunday) during the main conference before the banquet. Which 5 competitions are included? Best project, Leadership Empowerment & Expansion, Creative Marketing, Graphic Design, and Scrapbook. They each have a lightning bolt in their description below. |

Prepared Events include a 3 to 4 minute presentation. Each school may have a speaker and a visual (either physical or electronic). The presentation must also be accompanied by a supplement, which supports the presentation, as well as a 1 page handout, so you can share your great ideas with other councils. Presenters must also be prepared for a Q & A post presentation. Presenters will be judged on content, presentation skills, and quality of visuals. All requirements and expectations are outlined in the rubrics.

On demand events will be conducted individually and in small groups depending on the competition. Participants will be given a prompt, problem, or scenario to respond to in a requisite amount of time. Individual tasks will be scored based on the product that is submitted or presented. Group tasks will be scored on the team dynamic during the problem-solving time (50%) and on the group's explanation of their solution and judge Q&A (50%).

Artifacts showcase the creativity, planning, and impact of your project, campaign, or initiative. These tangible or visual materials—such as photos, designs, posters, social media posts, flyers, or agendas—are prepared ahead of the State Conference and brought with you to share your work. Artifacts allow judges and attendees to see the effort, innovation, and results of your project. All requirements are outlined in each event’s rubric.
